AB - This paper introduces a heuristic for multiple sequence alignment aimed at improving
real-time object recognition in short video streams with uncertainties. It builds upon the idea of
the progressive alignment but is cognitively economical to the extent that the underlying edit dis-
tance approach is adapted to account for human working memory limitations. Thus, the proposed
heuristic procedure has a reduced computational complexity compared to optimal multiple sequence
alignment. On the other hand, its relevance was experimentally confirmed. An extrinsic evaluation
conducted in real-life settings demonstrated a significant improvement in number recognition accu-
racy in short video streams under uncertainties caused by noise and incompleteness. The second line
of evaluation demonstrated that the proposed heuristic outperforms humans in the post-processing
of recognition hypotheses. This indicates that it may be combined with state-of-the-art machine
learning approaches, which are typically not tailored to the task of object sequence recognition from a
limited number of frames of incomplete data recorded in a dynamic scene situation

AB - This paper introduces a parameter-free clustering-based approach to detecting critical traffic
road segments in urban areas, i.e., road segments of spatially prolonged and high traffic accident
risk. In addition, it proposes a novel domain-specific criterion for evaluating the clustering results,
which promotes the stability of the clustering results through time and inter-period accident spatial
collocation, and penalizes the size of the selected clusters. To illustrate the proposed approach, it is
applied to data on traffic accidents with injuries or death that occurred in three of the largest cities of
Serbia over the three-year period.

AB - This paper introduces and illustrates an approach to automatically detecting and selecting
“critical” road segments, intended for application in circumstances of limited human or technical
resources for traffic monitoring and management. The reported study makes novel contributions
at three levels. At the specification level, it conceptualizes “critical segments” as road segments
of spatially prolonged and high traffic accident risk. At the methodological level, it proposes a
two-stage approach to traffic accident clustering and selection. The first stage is devoted to spatial
clustering of traffic accidents. The second stage is devoted to selection of clusters that are dominant in
terms of number of accidents. At the implementation level, the paper reports on a prototype system
and illustrates its functionality using publicly available real-life data. The presented approach is
psychologically inspired to the extent that it introduces a clustering criterion based on the Gestalt
principle of proximity. Thus, the proposed algorithm is not density-based, as are most other state-of-
the-art clustering algorithms applied in the context of traffic accident analysis, but still keeps their
main advantages: it allows for clusters of arbitrary shapes, does not require an a priori given number
of clusters, and excludes “noisy” observations.

AB - The aim of this paper is to explore the International Fisher Effect (IFE) between
Serbia and European Union (EU) in period between 2004 and 2015. The authors
in this paper explore the IFE by applying regression analysis. They were used
historical annual data for exchange rates, real interest rate and inflation, in this
research. Like a home country and foreign country the authors were used each of
these areas (Serbia and EU) like interchangeably and track the trail of the effect.
Explore was based on the time series of observed annual data in period between
2004 and 2015. The authors were used the data of authorized central banks from
databases: the World Bank, the National Bank of Serbia and the European Central
Bank. Regression analysis was performed using a software package SPSS 20.
The contribution of this paper is reflected in the obtained results. The results show
that a 1% increase in the nominal interest rate differential, on average, lead to
approximately a 0.3% offsetting change in the exchange rate in both cases (Serbia-
home EU-foreign and EU-home Serbia-foreign).The coefficients of determination
R 2 are very low, also in both cases. Only 3.3% of the annual changes in the RSD/EUR
exchange rate and 4.2% of the annual changes in the EUR/RSD exchange rate can
be explained by the nominal interest differentials. Therefore, about 96% of the annual
changes in the exchange rates depend on other factors.
AB - Cilj ovog rada je istraživanje Međunarodnog Fišerovog efekta (IFE) između Srbije i Evropske unije u periodu 2004-2015 godine. Autori u ovom radu IFE istražuju regresionom analizom.

AB - Benford’s Law is a useful tool for detecting fraud in financial statements. In this paper we test the
financial item named ‘Work performed by the undertaking for its own purpose and capitalised’
applying this tool. The data are taken from the financial reports of all companies submitted to the
Serbian Business Register Agency for the period of 2008–2013. Our conclusion shows that there is
a very high probability that the frequency distribution of the second digit does not satisfy Benford’s
Law. In other words, it implies that certain manipulations have been usually done with the second
digit of the aforementioned item in the financial statement. This research confirms our hypothesis
that financial statement frauds are usually conducted using the second digit.

Heuristic scanning and sandbox approach in malware detection

AB - A heuristic approach in malware detection is similar to the method of detecting anomalies applied to the intrusion detection system (IDS). It speeds up the process of finding sufficiently good solution in situations where the implementation of detailed research is not practical or is very time-consuming - for example, using various general rules, informed speculation, intuition and common sense. Instead of looking for matches (like in static signature-based detection), heuristic intrusion detection looks for behavior that is out of ordinary, with regards to a baseline of the normal network traffic and activity. Heuristic scanning uses rules and/or algorithms to look for commands which may indicate malicious intent without needing a signature. Analysis of static signatures will fail to catch new types of attacks but have usually less false positives. Heuristics might catch more new malware but this usually comes with higher false positive rate. Because of that, most modern and efficient IDS software uses both signature and heuristic-based methods in combination, with the goal of increasing the chance to detect and remove malware. In parallel with the heuristic and signature-based method, sandboxing approach is also used in detection of network anomalies. This is a software management technique that isolates examined applications from critical system resources and other programs. Without sandboxing, an application may have unrestricted access to all system resources and user data
on a computer. Similar to heuristics, this method also has its benefits and limitations. The general conclusion is that the best network security can be achieved utilizing more methods simultaneously - by multi-scanning (scanning with multiple anti-malware engines).

AB - The application of generalized logistic (GL) functions of the second type in fitting an important smoothing factor in a charge-based MOSFET model has been proposed. Beside the accurate results for the inversion charge density (ICD), this the GL-functional form of the smoothing factor enables also continuous and varied transitions of the ICD between weak and strong inversion region. Simulated values of the drain current, capacitance and transconductance match closely with numerical data for a wide range of substrate doping and oxide thickness.

AB - An improved surface-potential-based metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) model is presented. The improvement consists in introducing a new generalized logistic functional form for the smoothing factor that allows for a continuous transition of the surface potential from the depletion to strong inversion region. This functional form takes into account specific changes in the technological characteristics of MOSFET devices. The model combines the advantages of both regional and single-piece models and satisfies all requirements for compact models, i.e., continuity, accuracy, scalability, and simulation performance. Comparison with numerical data shows that the model provides an accurate description of the surface potential for a wide range of substrate doping and oxide thickness.

AB - Our work deals with the problem of producing a complex metal-ceramic composite using the processes of internal oxidation
(IO) and severe plastic deformation. For this purpose, Cu-Al alloy with 0.4wt.% of Al was used. IO of sample serves in the
first step of the processing as a means for attaining a fine dispersion of nanosized oxide particles in the metal matrix.
Production technology continues with repeated application of severe plastic deformation (SPD) of the resulting metal-
matrix composite to produce the bulk nanoscaled structural material. SPD was carried out with equal channel angular
pressing (ECAP), which allowed that the material could be subjected to an intense plastic strain through simple shear.
Microstructural characteristics of one phase and multiphase material was studied on internally oxidized Cu with 0.4wt.%
of Al sample composed of one phase copper-aluminum solid solution in the core and fine dispersed oxide particles in the
same matrix in the mantle region. In this manner AFM, X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy were used. Local
structures in plastically deformed samples reflect presence of Cu, CuO, Cu 2
O, Cu 4 O 3 or Al2O 3 structural characteristics,
depending on type of sample.

AB - The paper deals with three-term recurrence relations for Boubaker and related polynomi-
als, as well as some properties including zero distribution of such kinds of polynomials.
Also, an application of these polynomials for obtaining approximate analytical solution
of Love’s integral equation is presented. This Fredholm integral equation of the second kind
appeared in an electrostatic problem analyzed for the first time by Love (1949).
