AB - This study investigated the hierarchical structure of physical characteristics in elite young (i.e., U17-U19) basketball players according to playing positions. In addition, their predictive value of physical characteristics was determined for the evaluation of players' physical preparedness. Sixty elite male basketball players performed 13 standardized specific field tests in order to assess the explosive power of lower limbs, speed, and change-of-direction speed. They were divided into three groups according to playing positions (guard [n = 28], forward [n = 22], center [n = 10]). The basic characteristics of the tested sample were: age = 17.36 ± 1.04 years, body height = 192.80 ± 4.49 cm, body mass = 79.83 ± 6.94 kg, and basketball experience = 9.38 ± 2.10 years for guards; age = 18.00 ± 1.00 years, body height = 201.48 ± 3.14 cm, body mass = 90.93 ± 9.85 kg, and basketball experience = 9.93 ± 2.28 years for forwards; and age = 17.60 ± 1.43 years; body height = 207.20 ± 3.29 cm, body mass = 104.00 ± 9.64 kg, and basketball experience = 9.20 ± 1.62 years for centers. For all playing positions factor analysis extracted three factors, which cumulatively explained 76.87, 88.12 and 87.63% of variance, respectively. The assessed performance measures were defined as significant (p < 0.001), with regression models of physical performance index (PPINDEX). PPINDEX of guards = -6.860 + (0.932 × t-test) - (1.656 × Acceleration 15 m) - (0.020 × Countermovement jump); PPINDEX of forwards = -3.436 - (0.046 × Countermovement jump with arm swing) - (1.295 × Acceleration 15 m) + (0.582 × Control of dribbling); PPINDEX of centers = -4.126 + (0.604 × Control of dribbling) - (1.315 × Acceleration 15 m) - (0.037 × Sargent jump). A model for the evaluation of physical performance of young basketball players has been defined. In addition, this model could be used as a reference model for selection procedures, as well as to monitor the efficacy of applied training programmes within the short, medium and long-term periodization.

AB - Law enforcement agencies generally employ the "one-size-fits-all" education-training model. Its effectiveness compared to alternative training models has been under scrutiny. Physical fitness scores of Serbian male (n = 98) and female (n = 79) police cadets during their yearly evaluation were compared. Cadets trained for the first 3 years with the "one-size-fits-all" model. In the fourth year, they self-prescribed an individualized exercise program based on the obtained curriculum knowledge. A two-way MANOVA revealed a significant effect of academic years on combined variables (p < 0.001) and significant differences between academic years for deadlift, half squat, standing long jump, sit-ups and 12-min Cooper test time (p < 0.001). Sex also had a significant main effect on combined variables (p < 0.001) with males outscoring females on all of the fitness assessments. For pull-ups, there was a significant year * sex interaction (p = 0.01) with the third year to be pivotal for female and male performance, respectively. In conclusion, the use of a "one-size-fits-all" model, presented differences in physical fitness scores between the years one to three, pointing to its questionable effectiveness. On the contrary, the self-prescribed individualized exercise program of the fourth year elicited greater fitness scores, indicating the need to evaluate the applicability of such a training model more.

AB - Introduction. A career in law enforcement is physically and mentally demanding, contributing to increased health risks and occupational stress. Physical activity and healthy eating are beneficial for maintaining a healthy weight and preventing many chronic health conditions (e.g. heart disease, cancer). While most police students must pass a fitness exam to enter training and again before becoming sworn police officers, it is unclear whether academy training prepares officers to develop healthy dietary habits for their careers. This study aimed to investigate typical
dietary habits of police students at the University of Criminal Investigation and Police Studies, Belgrade, Serbia, and determine ways to improve officer education in healthy eating. Methods. A sample of police students (n = 137, 36.5% female) of average age 20.2 years participated in a survey to evaluate their typical dietary habits. Descriptive statistics were used to describe their nutritional behaviors. Results. Overall, the results suggest that most students make good nutrition decisions. The majority (78.1%) of students reported using alcohol responsibly, and 74.45% drank water between meals, though only 6.6% of students ate enough fruit every day. Almost all (98.5%) understood the importance of diet, but only 11.7% received nutrition-related information from a school source. Conclusion. Results suggest that police student training should include nutritional education and physical preparation for holistic police officer development. This approach could help prevent poor health outcomes for police officers.

AB - In order to understand the complexity of punches, measurement under realistic conditions in a training environment is necessary. A crucial element to achieving valid results is a reliable instrument. The aim of the study was to evaluate the metrical characteristics and reliability of kinematic sensors (KS) in specific karate testing as a novel method in the training process. Fourteen male competitors, members of a Serbian national senior and cadet karate team, participated in the study. Segmental acceleration in the different modalities of reverse punch (Gyako tsuki) were measured using KS placed on the hand and body. In relation to the qualitative criterion of the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) significance, good reliability (ICC = 0.75–0.90) was observed for eight kinematic variables, while excellent reliability (ICC > 0.90) was confirmed for ten kinematic variables. KS can be considered sophisticated measuring tools providing a reliable base of information for the objectification of assessment as the primary approach to top-level athletes.

AB - Purpose – The purpose of the study is to determine the prevalence of stress and to identify the occupational
stressors among Lebanese police officers.
Design/methodology/approach – Operational Police Stress Questionnaire (PSQ-op) was addressed to 100
randomly selected male Lebanese Police officers. Twenty items from the PSQ-op were run through the principal
component analysis to determine the most significant factors of stress and loading within each of the factors.
Findings – The results indicated that 59% of officers reported moderate stress level and 41% reported
strenuous stress. Principal component analysis identified six independent factors or stress among Lebanese
police officers explaining in total 72.1% of the total variance: excessive workload (30.6%), social-life time
management (12.8%), occupational fitness (9.1%), success-related stress (8.6%), physical and psychological
health (5.8%), and working alone at night (5.2%).
Research limitations/implications – This research approach encountered some limitations so further
research must: use a larger sample size, include female gender and identify other sources of stressors mainly
organizational or job context stressors.
Originality/value – Addressing and understanding stress factors among Lebanese police officers helps
improving awareness and developing individualized treatment strategies leading police officers to engage in
stress-management training to learn coping strategies and use effective tools for preventing stress before it
becomes chronic.

AB - This study investigated differences in the body composition of police officers from different occupational groups and the moderation effects of leisure time physical activity (LTPA). A sample of 237 police officers (special anti-terrorist unit, gendarmerie, firefighters, and general duties) participated in the study. Body mass index (BMI), percent of body fat (%BF), percent of skeletal muscle mass (%SMM), and index of hypokinesia (IH) were assessed using a multichannel bioelectric impedance analyzer and officers reported the amount of LTPA using an international physical activity questionnaire. The sample was divided in three groups relative to LTPA, sedentary (0-149 min/week), moderately active (150-299 min/week), and very active (300+ min/week). Multiple analysis of variance (4 × 3) was used to analyze if occupational groups differed based solely on occupation, if officers from the same occupation differed in muscularity and fatness based on LTPA, and if any differences in body composition occurred between officers from different occupations with the same level of LTPA. Police officers from more physically demanding occupations demonstrated lower %BF and IH, while having higher %SMM. This was also observed among the officers of the same occupation who reported a higher LTPA, while officers who reported very high LTPA had similar body composition.

AB - Maximum acceleration and running speed are significant for police officers in situations where they need to apprehend a running suspect. Most frequently, they have to handle these situations wearing work equipment that weighs equally for both genders. This research aims to determine the differences in maximum acceleration and running speed with equipment of different weight. 35 male and 24 female students from the University of Criminal Investigation and Police Studies took part in the research. The test measured the time needed for a 10m and 20m sprint, as well as a 10m flying start. All tests were performed without additional load, with a duty belt that contained police equipment weighing 5 kg total, as well as a vest weighing 10 kg. The Independent Samples t test found a statistically significant difference within groups in the time of running without occupational load compared to running with the load of 5 kg and 10 kg. Furthermore, the tests with 5 kg and 10 kg loads differed in the first 10m and 20m. All observed variables contained statistically significant differences between female and male students.

AB - Female police officers may be required to pursue offenders on foot while wearing occupational loads. The aim of this study was to determine relationships between fitness measures and change of direction speed (CODS) in female police officers and the influence of their occupational loads. Retrospective data were provided for 27 female police officers (age = 32.19 ± 5.09 y, height = 162.78 ± 5.01 cm, and mass = 71.31 ± 13.42 kg) and included fitness measures of: lower-body power (standing long jump (SLJ)), upper-body and trunk muscle endurance (push-up (PU) and sit-up (SU)), aerobic power (estimated VO2max), and CODS (Illinois agility test). The CODS test was performed without and with occupational load (10 kg). Paired sample t-tests (between-load conditions) and Pearson's correlations (relationships between measures) were performed with linear regression analysis used to account for the contribution of measures to unloaded and loaded CODS performance. CODS was significantly slower when loaded (unloaded = ~23.17 s, loaded = ~24.14 s, p < 0.001) with a strong, significant relationship between load conditions (r = 0.956, p < 0.001). Moderate to strong, significant relationships were found between all fitness measures ranging from estimated VO2max (r = -0.448) to SU (r = -0.673) in the unloaded condition, with the strength of these relationships increasing in the loaded condition accounting for 61% to 67% of the variance, respectively. While unloaded agility test performance was strongly associated with loaded performance, female police officer CODS was significantly reduced when carrying occupational loads. A variety of fitness measures that influence officer CODS performances become increasingly important when occupational loads are carried.

AB - Compared to adults, children have longer simple reaction time
(SRT) and choice reaction time (CRT) to simple and choice visual
stimuli. Based on the available data, it can be concluded that this
occurrence could be due to correlation between age and the
information processing speed. Other factors may have an impact,
too, such as the shorter attention span which children may have.
Some studies indicate that karate favors the development of
cognitive functions, including the RT. Therefore, the aim of the
current study was to determine whether there is a difference
in simple and choice reaction time between boys and girls of
preadolescent and early adolescent age on the basic and premastery
level of karate training. Testing involved 78 participants
divided into four subgroups, in accordance with the gender and
the level of training, using a custom designed RT measuring
software, developed in LabVIEW 2012 software package. A
two-way analysis of variance (Two-way ANOVA) confirmed
no differences between boys’ and girls’ SRT scores, while the
significant differences were found at the mastery criterion
subsample level. When it comes to CRT, the differences were
found at the boys’ subsample level, as well as between genders
on the basic level of training. It cannot be stated with absolute
certainty whether the acquired differences are the result of karate
training, some other physiological and cognitive phenomena or
the maturation process. Consequently, the futher research should
involve a broader sample – the population of the physically
inactive, as well as the children involved in other sports.

AB - Physical abilities play an important role in the performance of police work and are one of the main preconditions for the effectiveness of critical incidents resolving. Therefore, one of the methods for determining the police officers working skills is checking the basic physical abilities (BPA) and specific physical abilities (SPA) development levels. The problem in this paper was the evaluation of the BPA tests used by the police organizations and the Test for assessment of specific physical abilities of police officers (OCSAPO1). The aim of the study is to determine the battery of tests that describes the observed space from the aspect of professional orientation. The sample consisted of 99 male examinees (age 28.1 ± 6.1 years) divided into four groups: 30 ACPS students, 28 members of the General Police Unit, 17 members of the Special Anti-terrorist Unit and 22 subjects of control group. Eighteen BPA variables were used, as well as the efficiency of a job related fitness test OCSAPO1 with metabolic and functional physical activity indicators. Based on the descriptive indicators, factor analysis has determined the mutual structure and structure of quantitative relations between all BPA, SPA and metabolic variables. The analysis of communality determined that extrusion values in all variables ranged from 0.456 to 0.862. The obtained results cumulatively explained 67.51% of the variability, and four main groups of factors are distinguished. The first group is defined by the specific physical abilities of police officers, the second by maximum muscular forces, the third by variables of the rate of force development and the fourth by physiological variables. Based on the analysis of the obtained results average values, it was found that 54.86% of respondents correspond to the group they belong to. In practice, in selection and control of the BPA level, the battery of tests are used for the assessment of the police officers complete motor space. Finally, the results of this study indicate that the tests OCSAPO1, Long jump and the maximum number of pull-ups, mostly discriminate efficiency in motor space of police officers

AB - The aim of the research is to determine the reliability of testing various contractile functions of a male hand based on motoric and functional dominance and age. The examinee takes a seat with their arm extended or mildly flexed in a mildly abducted position. For the measuring purposes, dynamometric probe with isometric straining conditions fixed to a special construction was used. The 'Isometrics' (ver. 3.1.1) was used and frequency of data selection was realized on the level of 500 Hz. The sample includes 269 male examinees aged from 14.0 to 69.9. The results of descriptive statistics have shown that in relation to the tested sample for the non-dominant hand, values for maximum force (Fmax) range from 462.8 to 529.0 N, for explosive force (RFDmax) the range is from 1621.6 to 1972.8 N/s and for muscular force impulse (ImpF50%max) from 8203.9 to 15552.3 Ns, while Fmax values the dominant hand ranges from 478.1 to 566.2 N, for RFDmax it ranges from 1742.6 to 2119.0 N/s and for ImpF50%max 9516.7 to 16845.1 Ns. The results have shown that it is reliable to measure all three examined contractile hand characteristics where by ICC ranges from 0.938 to 0.977 for Fmax, from 0.903 to 0.971 for RFDmaxand from 0.747 to 0.943 for ImpF50%max. The second try as the better result should be considered the representational value for Fmaxand RFDmaxvariables, regardless of the hand dominance or age group. While for the variable ImpF50%max, in the age groups from 35.0 to 49.9 and from 50.0 to 69.9, the first tested try for both hands should be considered, in 14.0 to 19.9 years group the second try should be taken into consideration, and in 20.0 to 34.9 age range, the better result of the non-dominant hand is the first try, and of the dominant is the second try.

AB - In order to achieve high results in sports, it is necessary to provide an adequate status of an athlete in according to various factors, among which the body structure is one of greater importance. The aim of this research is to define the most discriminated indicators of body structure indexes, thanks to which a specific change of physical structure can be observed according to a branch of sport and type of combat sport. Variables in the research were: body height, body mass, body mass index, free fat mass index, fat mass index, protein mass index, skeletal muscle mass index, percent of body fat, percent of skeletal muscle mass and protein fat index. The measuring of the body composition is realized by using multichannel segmental bioimpedance with InBody 720 apparatus, applied on the total of 112 male high level senior-age athlete members of different national team's member of Republic of Serbia (62 judokas, 29 Greco-Roman style wrestlers and 21 karatekas). The discriminative analysis has shown that subsamples of the athletes statistically differ in morphology on Wilks' lambda level (0.435, p = 0.000), and that following variables have the highest discrimination compared to athlete respondents in sport function: percent of skeletal mass (0.34), percent of body fat (0.28) and protein fat index (0.26), as the first isolated factor (p = 0.000) by which is explained 86.3 %, that is body weight (0.74), skeletal muscle index (0.73), protein mass index (0.72), body mass index (0.72) and free fat mass index (0.70), as the second factor (p = 0.030) by which 13.7 % variability of measured body structure space is explained. By establishing body structure models of judokas, wrestlers and karatekas for variables examined and by using modern technological method of measuring (InBody 720, 2008) we got new information that characterize specificity of the sport, which all contribute to spreading and improving already existing knowledge in the sports sciences and sport body morphology area.

AB - The aim of the research was to determine the trends of changes on the Academy of Criminalistic and Police Studies (ACPS) entrance exam. Furthermore, the paper is to find whether there are any differences between the sexes in the terms of the results of the entrance exam. 1.576 examinees participated in the research (621 female and 955 male), all of which entered the ACPS as the students of basic and vocational studies. The paper analyses their scores in all components of the exam: High School Achievements (HSA), General Knowledge Test (GKT), Serbian Language and Literature Test (SLLT), the Level of Basic Motoric Abilities development (BMA) and the overall number of points achieved on the test. The results were firstly analysed by applying the basic descriptive statistics procedure, which determined the equation of trend of changes and R-squared values. The existence of the general variability differences between groups was determined by using MANOVA, while for the determination of partial differences between pairs of variables the Bonferroni test was used. The positive changes trend for both sexes in HSA and the negative one in SLLT were demonstrated. In females, a positive trend in BMA and a negative GKT trend were observed. However, an opposite effect was detected in males. Nevertheless, despite the different trends in individual tests, the overall number of points achieved on the entrance exam demonstrated a positive trend of changes in both populations. MANOVA results showed that the females had statistically better results in HSA, SLLT and BMA variables, but worse results in GKT. The overall result on the entrance examination taken into account, the females had statistically better scores by 3.31%.

AB - Involuntary neuromechanical muscle contractile properties, especially of the extensor muscles and knee joint flexors as the largest muscle groups of the caudal part of the body, play an important role in both everyday movement and sport. Based on these data we can obtain important information on the functional properties of muscles. The basic means of evaluation of the functional involuntary neuromechanical muscles contractile properties is the non-invasive tensiomyographic method (TMG). The aim of this study was to determine the differences between the involuntary neuromechanical contractile properties of the thigh muscles measured using the TMG method on a sample of male athletes and non-athletes. The sample of participants was made up of 17 athletes and 10 non-athletes. By applying the multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) and the t-test, we achieved results which indicate that of the overall 30 variables, a difference was determined among 13 of them. Most of the differences were determined for the extensor muscles of the right knee, especially of the rectus femoris muscle. It was also shown that in addition to the main knee joint extensor muscle (rectus femoris) the main knee joint flexor muscle (biceps femoris) also takes part in the definition of the difference between athletes and non-athletes. The results have shown that the following variables: contraction time (Tc) and delay contraction time (Td) are the functional parameters for which the highest difference between athletes and non-athletes were determined (from t = -2.284, p lt 0.05 for the vastus lateralis of the right leg to t = -4.018, p lt 0.01 for the rectus femoris of the left leg). These results have shown that it is possible to determine the differences in the functional involuntary neuromechanical contractile properties of the thigh muscles among trained and untrained individuals using the tensiomyographic method, but at the same time indicated that these differences were very specific since they refer only to certain properties.

AB - The subject of this paper was the examination of validity and reliability of the obstacle course test (OCSAPO1) that can be used to assess the specific abilities of police officers in the anaerobic-lactate work regime. Twenty-five students of the Academy of Criminalistic and Police Studies took part in this research (14 male and 11 female). The testing was performed according to the test - retest method for determining reliability. The studied variables included: performance time of the OC_SAPO1 (indicator of effectiveness), lactate concentration in capillary blood (measure of metabolic acidosis) and the value of heart rate frequency (measure of the functional exertion of the cardiovascular system). The results of t-test showed that the participants mastered the OC SAPO1 7.17 seconds faster in the second testing (t - 4.164, p lt 0.01), i.e. 7.25% faster, which suggests the that there is a learning effect and that test can be used for educational purposes. A statistically significant difference of the measured concentration of lactates and maximum heart frequency was not established between the two tests. Based on Cronbach's Alpha results, we can claim that the OC SAPO1 is a reliable measuring instrument for the evaluation of the specific ability of police officers in anaerobic-lactate work regime. A lower reliability of the Cronbach's Alpha test was established for maximum heart frequency when compared to the other studied variables. The registered levels of the studied variables classify the OCSAPO1 as a test of sub-maximal intensity in the anaerobic-lactate work regime.
Postignuti nivoi posmatranih varijabli svrstavaju Pol_SSP1 u testove submaksimalnog intenziteta u anaerobnolaktatnom režimu rada.

AB - The goal of this research is to establish - by measuring the selected variables and their comparison - whether a statistically significant difference in morphological and motor characteristics exists between escorts in the Administration for Guarding Certain Persons and Buildings according to the type of previous professional engagement. A successful selection is the basic precondition for forming an individual capable of responding to all challenges of the job, in accordance with the specific characteristics of the tasks of the Administration for Guarding Certain Persons and Buildings. The basic-motor status of police officers is a very important aspect of monitoring their work, and studying the differences of morphological characteristics and motor abilities shall provide guidelines in the education and advancement of police officers. The subjects were divided into 3 groups based on their previous professional engagements and organizational units. It was determined that between the escorts divided into groups, by type of previous professional engagement, there were no statistically significant differences regarding the morphological variables, at the general and partial level. In relation to the motor variables at the general level there were no statistically significant differences, whereas at the partial level there were significant differences with respect to the following variables: Lying-Sitting and Cooper. The results obtained in this research point to the need for continuous monitoring of the basic-motor status of police officers, comparing results with appropriate target groups and activities in accordance with the obtained indicators.
Bazično-motorički status policijskih službenika predstavlja veoma bitan aspekt praćenja nivoa njihove opšte fizičke pripremljenosti, a istraživanje razlika morfoloških karakteristika i motoričkih sposobnosti mogu dati smernice u edukaciji i usavršavanju policijskih službenika.

The results obtained in this research point to the need for continuous monitoring of the basic-motor status of police officers, comparing results with appropriate target groups and activities in accordance with the obtained indicators., Cilj ovog istraživanja je utvrđivanje razlika u morfološkim i motoričkim karakteristikama između pratilaca u Upravi za obezbeđenje određenih ličnosti i objekata, u odnosu na vrstu prethodnog profesionalnog angažovanja. Bazično-motorički status policijskih službenika predstavlja veoma bitan aspekt praćenja nivoa njihove opšte fizičke pripremljenosti, a istraživanje razlika morfoloških karakteristika i motoričkih sposobnosti mogu dati smernice u edukaciji i usavršavanju policijskih službenika.

AB - The purpose of this research was to examine possible relations between basic personality traits and cognitive abilities and basic physical functions in a sample of female candidates studying at Academy of Criminalistic and Police Studies (ACPS) in Belgrade. Literature review has shown that this problem has not been sufficiently studied, so it would benefit to gain a deeper insight into understanding of psychophysical functioning. Further contribution would include a better understanding of the nature of mind-body influence. In pragmatic sense, this work should help improve professional orientation and selection tasks in Police education and different profiles of police forces in Serbia. Samples of 267 female candidates studying at ACPS, aged 18 to 19 were given different personality and cognitive tests. Basic motoric space was covered by seven representative tests. The data was subjected to correlational analysis. There were few small statistically significant correlation coefficients. Further analysis by canonical correlations analysis has not given statistically significant canonical correlations. There were most significant correlations between contraction and stretching test and psychological characteristics. Those findings lead authors to conclude that this very physical trait in a sample of women is sensitive to psychological influence in case of professional selection.

AB - Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to determine the influence of different Specialized Physical Education (SPE) teaching programs on the level of students' physical abilities. Design/methodology/approach - In the Academy of Criminalistic and Police Studies (ACPS), one of the teaching program goals is an improvement of student's physical abilities level. Since the establishment of ACPS, three SPE programs have been implemented differing in number of class hours. Five different tests were used: "Isometric dead lift," "Hand grip," the Long jump (LJ), the Sit-up test and the Cooper test. Findings - Multivariate analysis of variance results indicated a statistically significant difference between the programs in tests LJ, Sit-up and Cooper. The Bonferroni test showed differences between all three programs. The discriminant analysis showed that both discriminant factors are statistically significant. The greatest factor in the first function was the test LJ, while the greatest factor in the second discriminant function was the Sit-up test. Practical implications - The importance of research was the fact that by determining the changes of students' physical abilities level, the authors can evaluate the effectiveness of various SPE programs. Results could be used in planning standards, selection and control of the achieved physical abilities level. Social implications - Changes could contribute to the positive effects of the educational process on improvement of students' physical abilities. Originality/value - This is one of the few studies which examine the influence of quantitatively different teaching programs on the level of physical abilities within a period of 15 years.

AB - This study analyses various forms of unethical behavior, which are increasingly present in sports. The focus of the research is to identify various forms of punishment, humiliation, mistreatment and abuse in sports clubs, and to approach this issue with determination with the aim of reducing or removing the consequences. The research was conducted in a variety of sports clubs in Serbia, which were chosen at random, and the participants (n=250) responded to a specifically structured questionnaire. The research showed that, depending on the age category, various types of unethical behavior took place: undue threats and punishment (55% men, 50% women, but with a statistically significant gender difference among the lower age categories), forced to compete despite possible health risks (over 80% athletes), and sexual harassment (78% of the female respondents in the category of younger seniors). Abuse and mistreatment were present in the pioneer, cadet and junior categories, and they became more intense in the senior age. Considering that the research results clearly show the existence of certain forms of abuse and mistreatment of athletes, this points to the need for the educational work of coaches to be focused on sport.

AB - The aim of this study was to profile hematological, oxidative stress, and immunological parameters in male athletes who practiced combat sports and to determine whether the type of combat sport influenced the measured parameters. Eighteen karate professionals, 15 wrestlers, and 14 kickboxers participated in the study. Hematological, iron-related, oxidative stress, and immunological parameters were measured at the beginning of a precompetitive period. The general linear model showed significant differences between the karate professionals, wrestlers, and kickboxers with respect to their hematological and iron status parameters (Wilks' Lambda = 0.270, F = 2.186, p lt 0.05) and oxidative stress status (Wilks' Lambda = 0.529, F = 1.940, p lt 0.05). The immature reticulocyte fraction was significantly higher in wrestlers (0.30 +/- 0.03) compared with kickboxers (0.24 +/- 0.04; p lt 0.05) and karate professionals (0.26 +/- 0.04; p lt 0.05). Low hemoglobin density was significantly lower in wrestlers and kickboxers (p lt 0.05) compared with karate professionals (karate: 3.51 +/- 1.19, wrestlers: 1.95 +/- 1.10, and kickboxers: 1.77 +/- 0.76). Significant differences were observed between the karate professionals and wrestlers with respect to their pro-oxidant-antioxidant balance (437 +/- 103 vs. 323 +/- 148, p lt 0.05) and superoxide-dismutase activity (SOD) (73 +/- 37 vs. 103 +/- 30, p lt 0.05). All the measured parameters (with the exception of SOD activity) fell within their physiological ranges, indicating that the study participants represented a young and healthy male population. Hematological parameters differed between kickboxers and karate professionals. The low pro-oxidant-antioxidant balance and high SOD activity in wrestlers could be associated with the long-term impact of wrestling as a type of strenuous exercise.

AB - In this study we defined model indicators of different muscle force characteristics while performing motor task: hand grip, by using isometric dynamometry method. The sample included 33 examinees (16 males, and 17 females) all students of Criminalistic-police academy, Belgrade, chosen randomly from the I year students of academic studies. The measured space was defined in relation to three aspects of muscle force dimensions: the aspect of muscle force (absolute value expressed in N, relative value expressed in N/kg BM and relativized value expressed in % out of Fmax), time aspect of expressing the given force percentage (time of endurance with 80, 50 and 30% out of Fmax, expressed in seconds) and mathematical models defined as different dependencies of expressed force characteristic as a function of time: Faps vs time, F% vs time i Frel vs time. The results show that by using mathematical modeling method, the measuring space is described by precision at the level of prediction from 99.97 % (in dependence F% vs time, girls, left hand) to 91.86% (in dependence F% vs time, man, right hand). However, for defining model indicators from the aspects of measured contractility capacity and for calculating the criteria indicators in young and healthy population it is necessary to repeat the measuring in the greater number of examinees.

AB - Karate tournaments consist of two equally important karate disciplines: the kumite and kata competitions. Due to being based both on the distinctive selection of movement techniques and their kinematic and kinetic patterns, we hypothesized that the elite kumite and kata competitors could differ regarding their anthropometric and physical performance profiles. Thirty-one senior male karate competitors of the national karate team (kumite n = 19; kata n = 12) participated in this study. The tests applied included both the assessment of anthropometric (body height, mass and body mass index) and the following physical performance measurements: the adductor and hamstring flexibility (sideward leg splits test), speed and acceleration (20-m sprint test with 10-m acceleration time), explosive power (countermovement and standing triple jump), agility ("T"- test) and aerobic endurance (20-m multistage shuttle run test). The kumite competitors revealed a larger body size through body height (p = 0.01) and mass (p = 0.03), while the differences in body composition were non-significant. The kumite competitors also demonstrated higher acceleration (p = 0.03) and explosive power (standing triple jump; p = 0.03). A 6-7 degrees higher flexibility of the kata competitors remained somewhat below the level of significance (p = 0.09). The findings could be interpreted by the distinctive differences in the movement techniques. Specifically, a higher explosive power could be beneficial for kumite, while both a smaller stature and higher flexibility (particularly of the lower extremity) could be important for the exceptionally low postures of the kata competitors. Although further elucidation is apparently needed, the obtained finding could be of importance for both the early selection and training of karate competitors.

AB - The aim of this study is to examine basic leg extensor isometric F-t curve characteristics obtained by testing in standing position. The sample consisted of 5 different sub-samples: power lifters (N=22), karate athletes (N=9), judokas (N=10), well trained athletes (N=39), and a control group (N=31). Six contractile characteristics were investigated: FmaxIZO-the level of maximal isometric force; tFmaxIZO-the time necessary for achieving maximal isometric force; RFDFmaxIZO-an index of basic isometric explosive force i.e. the isometric rate of force developement; FrelIZO-the relative value of the achieved maximal force; RFDFrelIZO-the relative value of isometric rate of force developement; and RFD/Fmax-an index which determines the level of development of basic isometric explosive force from the aspect of biological potential. Regarding all individual contractile parametres, the results showed that there is a statistically significant differences (p lt 0.001) between the sub-samples. Regarding all standardized differences, where the criterion represented the result of control group, FmaxIZO in power lifters is 65.34%, in karate athletes is 11.41%, in judokas 22.58%, and at well trained population 15.12% bigger. Regarding RFDFmaxIZO in power lifters, the obtained value was 243.80%, in karate athletes 118.36%, in judokas 129.17% and in the well-trained group was 43.33% higher that the control group. From the point of view of RFD/Fmax value, the obtained value in power lifters was 243.80%, in karate athletes 118.36%, in judokas 129.17% and in the well-trained group was 43.33% higher than the control group. According to the obtained analyses here related to F-t curve leg extensor characteristics, it is possible to define initial model indicators for six tested contractile characteristics in tested athletes and well-trained populations.

AB - Aim. The aim of this work was to define functional dimorphism (F maxNd/DoHGiso) and model characteristics at maximal isometric hand grip force (FmaxHGiso) in top level athletes in the Repupllc of Serbia. 256 top level athletes were tested from taekwondo, waterpolo, track and fields, basketball, orienteering, volleyball, archery, boxing, judo, handball and power lifting teams. Methods. In order to assess the FmaxHGiso we used standardized equipment, i.e., a sliding device that measures isometric finger flexor force, with a tenslometric probe fixed inside the device. Results. The average values of FmaxHGiso and relative force measured by allometric and classic method for right and left hand grip for the total sample were 632±125.67, 591.06±118.91 N; 32.47±5.56, 30.31±5.16 N/BM0.667; 0.7548±0.1363, 0.7044±0.1252 DaN/BM. The average value of FmaxNd/DoHGiso was 0.924±0.0752. Significant difference was established for the measurement characteristics at the level of Wilks Lambda 0.357, F=3.853, P=0.000. Maximal average value F maxHGiso for left and right hand is found in power lifters (795.08±94.45, 827.65±103.45 N) and minimal in taekwondo (454.67±48.2, 502.67±74.21 N). The most expressed F maxNd/DoHGiso was found in handball 0.8757±0.07. Considering defined classification of FmaxNd/DoHGiso, we classified the examinees from different sports in 4 groups: symmetry (volleyball, basketball, judo, boxing, power lifting 0.9337 to 0.9597); average (taekwondo, waterpolo 0.9076 to 0.9336); asymmetry (track and fields, orienteering, archery 0.8816 to 0.9075); dominant asymmetry of functional hand grip relations (handball <0.8815). Conclusion. The results obtained can be used to determine criteria decisions from the aspect of diagnostic procedures, metric aspect, medical aspect.

AB - The aim of the study was to compare the anthropomorphological (AM) statuses of female students of the Academy of Criminalistic and Police Studies (ACP students) and female athletes with different training regimens. The task was to position the AM space of the ACP students in relation to female athletes with an extended systematic training experience. The study involved a total of 106 subjects, divided into four subsamples as follows: 25 water polo players, 34 volleyball players, 11 karateists, and 36 ACP students. The AM status was assessed according to eleven (11) variables, and the results underwent multivariate discriminant analysis. The results were used to define the model of AM characteristics of the ACP students located in relation to the athletes. Three characteristic functions of the studied space were discriminated and defined as: 1) general indicators of the body constitution; 2) general indicators of the subcutaneous fatty tissue; and 3) the indicator of the local distribution of the fatty tissue in the upper arm. The results obtained indicate that the AM status of the ACP students generally (75.0%) corresponds to the profiled project standards of the effects of Special Physical Education. However, it should be pointed out that as many as 9 (25.0%) of the ACP students belonged to the water polo player model, i.e. the group with most pronounced characteristics of body fat, while the total of mere 6 (4+2; 16.7%) belonged to the volleyball player and karateist model, i.e., the group with the professionally most desirable anthropomorphological characteristics.

abstract = "The aim of the study was to compare the anthropomorphological (AM) statuses of female students of the Academy of Criminalistic and Police Studies (ACP students) and female athletes with different training regimens.
